Jinan intensifies cooperation with Central and Eastern European countries

The Opening Ceremony of Seminar for Local Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries was held Monday morning in Jinan, east China’s Shandong Province. The seminar will last to April 17. Chen Xu, executive secretary-general of the Secretariat for Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries, and director-general of the Department of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC, delivered a key-note speech. Wang Zhonglin, deputy secretary of the CPC Jinan Municipal Committee and mayor of Jinan addressed the ceremony.

The seminar will help enterprises in Jinan to better understand the market conditions in the Central and Eastern Europe. It will make great contributions to the establishment of an efficient platform for the communication and exchanges between Jinan City and the Central and Eastern European countries and the cooperation between the two sides in culture, investment, trade, business attraction, high technology and the going out of private companies.
Attendees watch the promotion vedio of Jinan. “The 16+1 format, a cooperation platform initiated by the People’s Republic of China and the Central and Eastern European countries, becomes more mature and has made steady progresses in various fields,” said Wan Zhonglin, “Jinan is actively fitting in as a part of the cooperation format with a more open posture. We have established friendly relations with local governments, organizations and enterprises of nine Central and Eastern European countries. Both sides have achieved practical results in business and logistics, engineering, cultural tourism, eco-civilization of water and people-to-people exchanges.”
H.E. Grigor Porozhanov, ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to China, delivers a speech at the opening ceremony. The seminar attracts more than 200 attendees from home and abroad. The Cooperation between Central and Eastern European countries and China (“16+1”) is an initiative by the People’s Republic of China aimed at intensifying and expanding cooperation with 11 EU member states and 5 Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia) in 2012. Austria, the Republic of Belarus, Greece, Switzerland, EU and EBRD are accredited as observers.
