Liu Bin and Li Na had never met each other before this week. However, it was their willingness to help that brought them together. They donated their hemopoietic stem cells to two leukemia patients on January 7, reports iqilu.com. 32-year-old Liu Bin works at a hospital in the city of Zibo, Shandong Province. In 2013, he joined in the Chinese Bone Marrow Bank and became a volunteer. Last September, he was informed that his hemopoietic stem cells had been successfully matched with a young man with leukemia. Before donating his cells, Liu persisted in exercising every day over the past three months, dropping over 20 kilograms. 27-year-old Li Na became a volunteer with the Chinese Bone Marrow Bank in May, 2016. "My marrow is going to an eleven-month-old baby girl. She's going to have her first birthday later on this January. The hemopoietic stem cells are my birthday gift to her." The stem cells from the two donors were collected at a hospital in Jinan, Shandong Province on Monday and transported to Beijing and Chongqing respectively by air-ambulance that evening. According to the Red Cross Society of China's Shandong Branch, Liu Bin and Li Na are the first two hemopoietic stem cells donors from the province in 2018.
