A conference was held yesterday to brief on 13 practical things done by Shandong government in 2017 for the project that benefits people with culture. In 2017, more than 830,000 movies were shown in rural areas for free via 17 rural digital theaters in Shandong. Shandong has distributed 428,756 books for children and 124 digital facilities among 7,005 rural libraries, middle and primary schools in provincial-level impoverished villages, spending 14.67 million yuan in total. Shandong Provincial Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television was responsible for three major tasks in the project, which are showing one movie to each administrative village per month, showing 35,000 movies in all for free in community squares and welfare institutions and carrying out rural children’s reading project, according to Zhong Hua, deputy director general of the administration. Since 2017, Shandong has shown 830,000 movies to over 50 million people via 17 cinemas, employing as many as 6,900 people for 3,400 film projection teams. The film projection was scheduled from April of 2017 to February of 2018 to ensure the aged and children in welfare institutions can watch films during the Spring Festival. What’s more, Shandong has carried out unannounced visits to 112 communities and villages of 9 cities to supervise and examine the construction situation of rural libraries and distribution of children’s books in impoverished villages. Shandong has hand out for free more than 30,000 learning readers of the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China to those poverty-stricken villages.
